Rebecca Murphy is an Australian born pop surrealist, painting mostly myths, monsters, ladies, luchadors, and pop culture love. Her work has been described as witty, seductive, dark, and syrupy sweet, beauty juxtaposed against the unsettling. Working predominantly in acrylic and ink, her influences vary from Art Nouveau and Ukiyo-e woodblock prints to 19th century medical texts and modern tattoo masters. Murphy's distinctive works have been featured in publications such as Empty, Curvy, Göoo, SemiPermanent, and Cleo Australia, included in major art festivals such as Miami Art Basel and the Outpost Project, and have garnered critical recognition in a number of Art Prizes, including the Lethbridge 10000 and the Waverly Art Prize. Exhibited extensively throughout Australia, New York, Tokyo, Singapore, London, Miami, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Toronto, Murphy is addicted to caffeine and adventure, shares her studio with a pet lizard called Trouble, and can open a bottle of bubbly with a sword.
